Friday, June 5, 2026 #6 Jesus Prays Before Mission
God Responds when Jesus Prayed Luke 3:21–22
"When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: 'You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.'" — Luke 3:21–22
Of all the details Luke could have highlighted, he notes that heaven opened while Jesus was praying. Not after a sermon. Not during a miracle. In prayer.
At the threshold of His public ministry, Jesus paused to pray, and the Father responded with affirmation, the Spirit with presence, and heaven itself with open access.
We often want God's power before we've sought His face. Jesus shows us the order: prayer first, then mission.
What new season or calling is before you? Begin it on your knees.
Father, as I stand at the doorways You've placed before me, help me not to rush through them without first pausing to pray. Like Jesus at the Jordan, I want each new beginning to be marked by seeking You. Speak over me. Fill me with Your Spirit. Let me hear Your voice before I take the next step...
Continue your personal prayer.
By the authority of Jesus - Amen
