Lesson 1  Matthew 16:18

Lesson Frame:

We will understand the concept of Restoration Christianity and the Restoration Church.

I will be able to describe some of the characteristics of the NT church and be able to apply these principles to my daily walk

Issue: In 2023 about 31.2% of the world's population is considered to be Christian. According to the Center for the Study of Global Christianity, there are more than 45,000 Christian denominations globally and more than 200 in the U.S. Most of the denominations came to be after the Protestant Reformation in 1517. How did we get this messy?

Is there one true church? If not, why did Jesus say, "I will build my church?" Matthew 16:18.

In this lesson, we will take a 30,000-foot view of the history of the Church from A.D. 33 to Modern times. (See Timeline in PPT slides below).

Our purpose is to understand what has influenced the church over the 2000-plus years and to help us re-read our Bibles to find the true church that Jesus built and the Apostles taught.
We want to focus on the big picture which Paul said in I Corinthians 2:1-5 was to teach Jesus and Him crucified.
