Prayer Starter Wednesday 4-9-25
Today's Prayer Starter
Good Wednesday morning!
Proverbs 30:7–9 – Agur’s Prayer
"Two things I ask of you; deny them not to me before I die: Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you and say, 'Who is the Lord?' or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God."
Agur's prayer - maybe the only prayer in the book of Proverbs - is packed with awesome wisdom in only three verses. Agur prays with death in mind ("deny them not to me before I die"), asking God to clear his path of any real or even potential hindrance to godliness. He sites falsehood, lying, riches, and poverty. He asks for God to meet his daily needs ("feed me with the food the is needful for me"). We benefit from studying Agur's petitions as well as his heart - he truly desires a life of holiness that honors the name of his God.
Wednesday is a good day to think about writing your prayer out. Sometimes we are easily distracted when we pray. Often we forget what we want to pray for. Writing out your prayer comes in two forms. One is just to make a list of things or people you want to pray for and then talk to God and say your prayer.
However, every now and then, I think it can be a good practice to write my prayer to God as if I am writing a letter to my grandparents or best friend. So here is my prayer starter for today: Write a prayer to God using Agur's format.
"Two things I ask of you, Lord." Remove far from me ----------- " personalize what you want God to remove from you so you do not sin. "And feed me with the food that is needful for me----"
"Tell me what I need so I can be a blessing to others. What scriptures do I need to make mine so I best serve you."
If you enjoy writing your prayers, it can help you build your faith because you can go back a few days, a few weeks, or even months and see how God answered your prayers. Your written prayer may also help you realize how fickle we are asking God for this or that.
Give it a try. Grab a pen and paper. Write to the Lord - it can be a prayer of supplication or thanksgiving.
