Does Prayer Matter?

Before I felt God working in my life - in real and tangible ways... before I experienced firsthand the power of prayer, experienced Him working in my life, I would have answered this question with “I’m not sure.” At times in my life, I would have said it is nothing more than a desperate “Hail Mary pass” you throw up when you’re desperate and have nothing else.

To change my belief system about prayer, I had to to lean on the faith of others. I was amazed at times to see how others believed in prayer so strongly. How they ensured prayer was an essential part of every day. Their faith gave me the hope I needed to believe and the inspiration to keep praying.

Now being at a different point in my walk of faith and having experienced God through prayer, I can say without a doubt that prayer DOES MATTER. 

If you’re still unsure about prayer, I won't be able to convince you; but I can encourage you to lean on the faith of others and keep praying. Give God a chance to step in and allow Him to convince you, without a doubt, that prayer does matter.

Don't know what to say... just start with calling on God. The Spirit can fill in the rest (Romans 8:26).

Dear Lord, I want prayer to matter. Help me to be a man (or woman) of prayer and to share my faith in You so others will learn to pray, too. Continue to pray your prayer.

Today's Prayer Starter Good morning! As we begin this five day journey of praying specifically to build our relationship with God, let's start with a prayer of adoration. In Psalm 8 , David prays a prayer of adoration.  "O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, You have established strength because of yor foes, to still the enemy and the avenger." Prayer Starter - Thursday, June 26, 2025 Pray for a Helicopter

Good Morning, I hope you won't be offended, but I want to share an old joke with you that drives home an important point regarding what the Bible tells us about prayer and trusting in God. A religious man was trapped on the roof of his house during a bad flood. He prayed to God to save him. Before the waters were too high, a neighbor drove by and offered to take him in his truck before the water rose. He declined the offer and said "God will save me."  As the water rose, vehicles could no longer drive by and a Fire & Rescue crew came by in a boat. Again, an offer for rescue and again, the religious man said, he would wait upon the Lord.  Finally the water is destroying the house and it is near the lower levels of the roof. Another rescue attempt this time by helicopter, offers to whisk him away to safely and he declines, relying on God to save him, only to die in the great storm. Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV) "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." As we grow older, life often brings unexpected challenges—health concerns, changes in relationships, and the reality of life's brevity.
