Dear Prayer Warrior:
Yesterday I introduced the concept of divine Biblical reading as a form of prayer. You read this scripture:
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
And then you selected a word or phrase and you prayed about the phrase.
In divine Biblical reading as a form to communion with God in prayer we have four (4) steps:
1. Read a passage.
2. Meditate the scripture.
3. Speak the passage.
4. Contemplate the message.
First you read the passage gently. Read outloud - multiple times - get the picture of God in the message. Identify a word or phrase and commit to that term for the day.
Second, meditate on His word. Let the scripture read to you. Use the passage to help you reflect and self-examine. Ask, how does this apply to me? Ask God to speak and reveal what He wants you to get from this passage.
Next, after allowing God and His Spirit to speak to you, then respond. Communicate your thoughts about the passage to Him. This could be thankfulness, joy, worry, or even confession. Speak to Him from your emotions that the scripture fills you with.
Finally, contemplate what does God want me to do now that I have listened to His words, prayed about this phrase and spoke to Him my feelings. Now be quiet and receive HIs blessings. It may be assurance. It could be forgiveness, but receive the blessing from Him.
Dear Lord, I know You bless the one that "does not walk with the wicked." I want to be blessed like that. Please help me to not be in the same lane as those that oppose You. Help me to not be worried about walking with the wicked because I know You are with me and watching over me. If I stray, please forgive me and drag me back into Your fold. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
As you can tell, I selected words from the first verse. Today I will focus my thoughts and prayers on the phrase, "who does not walk in step with the wicked." So memorize the phrase or write it on a card and then throughout the day, meditate on the phrase and then pray your prayers.
At the end of they day, talk to God again and see how well you meditated on this phrase today.
Hope you have a blessed day and continue to practice Divine Biblical Reading in Prayer.
