Prayer Starter - Monday, June 30, 2025. Come, Lord Jesus

Revelation 22:20  John, the writer of The Book of Revelation, prays, "Come, Lord Jesus!"

John was exiled to Patmos by the Roman emperor. Isolated and separated from the rest of the church, he might have seemed completely alone. At the same time, he understood that the kingdom of God was near.

Scripture shows us that trials and the kingdom of God are often linked. Acts 14:22 reminds us, “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.” Difficulties in life aren’t random or meaningless. Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” or placing blame, we are invited to seek God’s purpose in the midst of what’s unfolding.

Hardships can be part of a larger work of preparation—shaping us for the future, whether in this life or the next.

John’s exile might have looked like a setback, but it was exactly where God wanted him. With no distractions, God had John’s full attention, and it was in that place of isolation and suffering that John received one of the most powerful revelations in all of Scripture. The book of Revelation wasn’t born out of comfort—it came from tribulation.

In today’s world, we don’t have to be on a remote island to feel like prisoners. People may feel trapped in their circumstances, or in their emotional or mental struggles. But if we can surrender those places to God and seek His will in them, we may begin to experience His kingdom in ways we never imagined.

Instead of bitterness or self-pity, we can ask, “God, what are You teaching me through this? How can this situation shape me for Your purposes?” In doing so, we may find that our pain becomes a place of encounter, our weakness a place of strength, and our waiting a place of transformation.

Like John, we may discover that the very place of a trial is the place where God reveals Himself most clearly.

Holy Father,

We praise Your Name this morning because You created us to worship. You created us to serve. You created us to share the message of Jesus.  Sometimes I feel like John on the island, separated from others, separated from You, but I know You are with me in every trial and tough situation.

Across the state of Texas, we are praying for so many things. Our friends who are ill; our friends who are struggling, even ourselves. But we know that we need to look to You for our direction. We need to pray that we are about Your purpose for each of our lives.

Lead us to some soul today and work in our lives so that some day, when it is Your will, we can pray, "Come, Lord Jesus."  In His Name, we pray "Amen."
