Prayer Starter - Saturday, June 28, 2025 Using the Psalms to Help us Pray
If you want your prayers to be guided by God's Word — and I hope you do — there’s nothing better than using the Psalms. The Psalms are words from God that we can use to speak back to Him. They include praise, sorrow, reflection, requests, and cries for help. Ignoring them means missing out on something powerful. The Psalms connect our personal prayers with the prayers of believers throughout history. They touch our hearts, teach our minds, and help us follow God's will.
Psalm 51:10-12 (Read the entire Psalm 51)
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
O Lord God, the Father, I pray for a pure heart. In Christ, You fulfilled David’s plea and gave me a clean heart, a gift only You could provide. Though perfection is not within my reach on this side of heaven, I rejoice in knowing that I am no longer a slave to sin. Through Your Holy Spirit, I can say no to ungodliness and yes to righteousness. What a glorious exchange! Help me remain firm in my desire for a pure heart by renewing a steadfast spirit within me regardless of circumstances this coming year. In the Name of Jesuis, Amen.
