Prayer Starter - Monday, July 7, 2025 "The Jesus Way"


Matthew 5 and 6 layout Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. It is a powerful collections of lessons Jesus wanted His disciples to understand. Under King Jesus, things would be different. Some have referred to it as "The Jesus Way." Link to Matthew 5 if you take time later to read the whole chapter.  This morning focus on vs 38-42, I will share it from The Message: 

“Here’s another old saying that deserves a second look: ‘Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.’ Is that going to get us anywhere? Here’s what I propose: ‘Don’t hit back at all.’ If someone strikes you, stand there and take it. If someone drags you into court and sues for the shirt off your back, giftwrap your best coat and make a present of it. And if someone takes unfair advantage of you, use the occasion to practice the servant life. No more tit-for-tat stuff. Live generously.

Christian artist, Phil Wickham, recently wrote a song called "The Jesus Way." The song was shared with me yesterday in worship. Maybe you have heard it, too. The message is based on the words Jesus shared in Matthew 5.

If you curse me, then I will bless you
If you hurt me, I will forgive
And if you hate me, then I will love you
I choose the Jesus way

If you're helpless, I will defend you
And if you're burdened, I'll share the weight
And if you're hopeless, then let me show you
There's hope in the Jesus way

Begin your morning with a prayer. He are a few words to get you started - and then let the Spirit encouage your heart to continue to converse with God.

Oh Heavenly Father, Help me to choose the Jesus Way. 

Help me to follow Jesus. I want to choose forgiveness, when I am done wrong. 

I want to choose grace when I feel cheated. 

No matter what I face, help me to choose to worship You in all joy.

Help me to choose love over hate.

I choose to surrender, Lord.

Continue to pray your thoughts to the Almighty love God we serve.

By the grace of our Savior, I choose the Jesus Way, Amen.

Merry Christmas.  Good morning, friend: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us ). — Matthew 1:23 From the very beginning, God’s desire has been to dwell with His people. The promise of Emmanuel - God with us  — is the fulfillment of that longing. In Jesus Christ, God did not remain distant or unreachable. He stepped into our world, our struggles, and our suffering. Emmanuel reminds us that God is present in every season of life. When we feel alone, He is with us. When we walk through uncertainty, He walks beside us.
