A Prayer of Light, Hope, and Faithfulness

(based on 1 Thessalonians 5)

Heavenly Father,
We come before You in awe of Your power and grace. You alone hold the times and seasons in Your hands. We know that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night, sudden and sure. Help us not to be found asleep or distracted, but awake, alert, and sober, as children of the light and of the day.

Lord, clothe us with faith and love as our breastplate, and let the hope of salvation guard our minds like a helmet. Thank You that we are not appointed to wrath, but to receive salvation through Your Son, Jesus Christ—who died for us, that whether we are awake or asleep, we may live with Him forever.

Make us encouragers, Lord. Let us build one another up in truth and love. Teach us to honor those who labor in Your name and shepherd Your flock. Give us patience with all—courage to admonish the idle, compassion to lift the weak, and strength to pursue peace in every relationship.

Help us to never return evil for evil, but always to seek what is good—for our brothers and sisters, and for all people.

We choose today to rejoice always, to pray without ceasing, and to give thanks in every circumstance, knowing this is Your will for us in Christ Jesus. Let us not quench Your Spirit. Keep our hearts open to Your voice, discerning what is true and holding fast to what is good. Give us wisdom to reject every form of evil.

God of peace, sanctify us through and through. May our whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We trust in Your faithfulness—for You who call us will surely do it.

We lift up our leaders, our brothers and sisters in the faith. Strengthen them. Bless them. Unite us in love. Let grace overflow among Your people.

And may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with us all—now and forever.

Amen.

Prayer Starter - Thursday, June 26, 2025 Pray for a Helicopter

Good Morning, I hope you won't be offended, but I want to share an old joke with you that drives home an important point regarding what the Bible tells us about prayer and trusting in God. A religious man was trapped on the roof of his house during a bad flood. He prayed to God to save him. Before the waters were too high, a neighbor drove by and offered to take him in his truck before the water rose. He declined the offer and said "God will save me."  As the water rose, vehicles could no longer drive by and a Fire & Rescue crew came by in a boat. Again, an offer for rescue and again, the religious man said, he would wait upon the Lord.  Finally the water is destroying the house and it is near the lower levels of the roof. Another rescue attempt this time by helicopter, offers to whisk him away to safely and he declines, relying on God to save him, only to die in the great storm. Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV) "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." As we grow older, life often brings unexpected challenges—health concerns, changes in relationships, and the reality of life's brevity. But in all the seasons of life, one thing remains constant: God's faithfulness. In the book of Lamentations, Jermiah the.prophet, reflects on a time of great sorrow and hardship.
