Prayer Starter, Monday, August 11, 2025 Jesus Prays!


Good Morning, Prayer Warriors!

Remember the story in John 11 about Jesus raising the dead man, Lazarus? (vs 38-44).  Jesus gave us an example of praying to God. I love how He, being God, actually told the Father, why He prayed they way He did.

40-42 Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”

So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me.  I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”

Jesus - always the teacher- thanked God for hearing Him. Why? Because it would help those with Him (and us) to  believe that Jesus was the Son of God.

"Father, thank you for hearing me."  God has his ears on us. He wants us to pray to Him and He listens.

Let's pray Psalm 34:1 -7 NIV -

Heavenly Father, I join my brothers and sisters in prayer this morning praying David's words from old.  Help me to make them mine everyday.

1I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
let the humble hear and be glad.
3Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt his name together!

4I sought the Lord, and he answered me
and delivered me from all my fears.
5Those who look to him are radiant,
and their faces shall never be ashamed.
6This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him
and saved him out of all his troubles.
7The angel of the Lord encamps
around those who fear him, and delivers them. (ESV)

Thank You, Lord Jesus for teaching us that God is good and He hears our prayers. 

Now, my friend, while you are mediating on the goodness of God, say outloud, or write down a few things you are thankful God has done in your life. Let Him know right now, how much you appreciate Him hearing our prayers. Continue praying.

Today's Prayer Starter Good morning! As we begin this five day journey of praying specifically to build our relationship with God, let's start with a prayer of adoration. In Psalm 8 , David prays a prayer of adoration.  "O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, You have established strength because of yor foes, to still the enemy and the avenger." You can read the entire Psalm, but this morning use David's prayer to help you tell God why you believe His name is majestic in all the earth.  Try it! Prayer Starter - Thursday, June 26, 2025 Pray for a Helicopter

Good Morning, I hope you won't be offended, but I want to share an old joke with you that drives home an important point regarding what the Bible tells us about prayer and trusting in God. A religious man was trapped on the roof of his house during a bad flood. He prayed to God to save him. Before the waters were too high, a neighbor drove by and offered to take him in his truck before the water rose. He declined the offer and said "God will save me."  As the water rose, vehicles could no longer drive by and a Fire & Rescue crew came by in a boat. Again, an offer for rescue and again, the religious man said, he would wait upon the Lord.  Finally the water is destroying the house and it is near the lower levels of the roof. Another rescue attempt this time by helicopter, offers to whisk him away to safely and he declines, relying on God to save him, only to die in the great storm. Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV) "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." As we grow older, life often brings unexpected challenges—health concerns, changes in relationships, and the reality of life's brevity.
