Prayer Starter - Thursday, August 21, 2025 - "Prayer for Healing"


When poor health—whether physical, emotional, or mental—fills us with anxiety, God offers peace and healing. We can always turn to Him in prayer, both for ourselves and for those we love. It’s natural to pray when sickness strikes, but what if we also prayed for health when we’re feeling well? What if we asked God not only to restore our health but to strengthen it?

Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.  3 John 1:2

While we can’t control everything—like germs, depression, or disease—we can choose daily habits that nurture our souls, such as reading Scripture and praying over our health. Let us seek complete well-being: mind, body, and spirit. May we invite God’s counsel into every part of our lives and welcome the Holy Spirit’s wisdom to bring healing where it’s needed most.

True health is more than a body free of illness—it is a life made whole through God’s presence. 

A few prayers depending on your situation:

Gracious Lord, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude and a humble request. Thank You for the health and strength You’ve given me. I pray that You would continue to protect me—body, mind, and spirit. Keep me strong against illness, fill me with energy, and help me to live a life that glorifies You.

A sample prayer starter for personal health

Father, I trust in Your divine care and ask for wisdom to make healthy choices that align with Your will. Guide me in nourishing my body, resting when needed, and staying active in ways that honor the life You’ve blessed me with. Lord, I place my health in Your hands, knowing You are the Great Physician. Strengthen me, restore me, and let my life be a testament to Your goodness and grace. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen

A sample prayer for a sick friend or family member. Name them.

Gracious Father, I ask for Your calming peace to surround my (friend, sick family member, ____). Ease their anxiety, remove all fear, and help them find rest in Your presence. Let the assurance of Your love be their comfort and strength. May Your Holy Spirit minister peace to their mind, soul, and body. Even in the midst of this illness, may they feel safe and unshaken. Let Your stillness reign in their room and heart today. 

Bless me with Your strength as I share time & care for them. Support me with Your love and with hope only found in You. By the power of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer Starter - Thursday, June 26, 2025 Pray for a Helicopter

Good Morning, I hope you won't be offended, but I want to share an old joke with you that drives home an important point regarding what the Bible tells us about prayer and trusting in God. A religious man was trapped on the roof of his house during a bad flood. He prayed to God to save him. Before the waters were too high, a neighbor drove by and offered to take him in his truck before the water rose. He declined the offer and said "God will save me."  As the water rose, vehicles could no longer drive by and a Fire & Rescue crew came by in a boat. Again, an offer for rescue and again, the religious man said, he would wait upon the Lord.  Finally the water is destroying the house and it is near the lower levels of the roof. Another rescue attempt this time by helicopter, offers to whisk him away to safely and he declines, relying on God to save him, only to die in the great storm. It's Friday - Game Day.  Friday Night Lights For many of us, Friday night lights bring back memories of gathering with family and friends at the local football field. The lights shining against the night sky signaled more than just a game—it was a place of community, excitement, and hope. In life, we also walk through nights that feel dark. The worries of health, family, or the unknown can weigh heavily. But just as stadium lights brighten the field, the light of Christ shines into our lives. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” ( John 8:12 ). Dear Heavenly Father, many of us are long past the days of Friday night lights; others of us, have a game tonight. Be with us as we are a community - we are family.
