Prayer Starter - Friday, October 31, 2025 Light in the Darkness

Halloween often brings images of darkness, fear, and things that go bump in the night. Yet for followers of Christ, this season can serve as a reminder of a deeper truth: light always overcomes darkness.

In John 1:5, we read, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” No matter how deep the shadows seem—whether in the world around us or in our own hearts—Jesus remains the unchanging Light. His presence drives out fear, replacing it with peace.

As we see candles flickering in pumpkins and lights glowing on porches, we can remember that our lives, too, are meant to shine. We are called to reflect Christ’s light so that others may see hope, love, and truth through us—even on a night that celebrates fright.

Let this Halloween be an opportunity to stand firm in faith, to love our neighbors well, and to shine brightly in the midst of darkness.

Lord Jesus,
Thank You for being the Light that no darkness can overcome. As the world around us celebrates shadows and fear, help us to walk in Your truth and peace. Let our words and actions reflect Your love to those around us. Protect our hearts and homes, and use us to bring light wherever there is darkness. May Your name be glorified tonight and always.
Amen.
