Prayer Starter - Friday, November 14, 2025 Daniel's Dangerous Thanksgiving Prayer

Daniel’s story in Daniel 6 is one of the clearest pictures of courageous faith in the whole Bible. When King Darius signed a law that made prayer to anyone but the king illegal for thirty days, Daniel knew exactly what it meant: continuing to pray could cost him his life. But Daniel didn’t hide. He didn’t adjust his worship. He didn’t pray silently in fear. Scripture says he “went to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed… just as he had done before.”

Daniel prayed with his windows open—not to show off, but because he refused to let fear change his relationship with God.

His faith didn’t make the danger disappear. Daniel was still arrested. He was still thrown into a lions’ den. But he discovered something powerful: God meets His people in the places where obedience feels risky. The lions could not harm him because God was already there.

Today, you may not face lions, but you may feel pressure to hide your faith—at work, at school, or even among friends. Prayer can feel risky when you worry about being judged, excluded, or misunderstood. Yet Daniel reminds us that a faithful life is built on consistent communion with God, not on the comfort of safe circumstances.

When we choose prayer over fear, God strengthens us. When we choose obedience over approval, He stands with us. And when we kneel before God, we can stand before anything.

Lord, give me Daniel’s courage. When prayer feels costly, help me remember that You are worth everything. Strengthen my faith to seek You openly, consistently, and joyfully. And when I face pressure to stay silent, remind me that You are the God who shuts the mouths of lions and walks with me in every danger. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.
