Prayer Starter - Monday, November 17, 2025 Jonah's Prayer of Thanksgiving



Jonah never expected to thank God from the belly of a great fish—but that’s exactly what he did. In Jonah 2:1–9, we hear his cry rising from a place no one would choose: dark, confined, uncomfortable, and hopeless. Yet in that unlikely place, Jonah discovered the powerful message that God hears us even when we’ve hit the bottom.

Jonah admits he ran from God, yet when he prayed, “You heard my voice.” God met him in the deep. Before Jonah ever saw a way out, he lifted a prayer of thanksgiving, declaring, “Salvation belongs to the Lord.” His circumstances hadn’t changed, yet his heart had.

Sometimes our own “deep places” feel like a result of our failures, fears, or wrong turns. But Jonah’s prayer reminds us that there is no place so dark that God’s mercy cannot reach us. Thanksgiving becomes our act of trust; thanking God not just for deliverance, but for His presence while we wait.

Like Jonah, we can choose to praise God before the rescue, believing that the One who hears us in the deep will also lead us back into the light.


Lord, thank You for hearing me even when I feel overwhelmed or far from You. Teach me to thank You not only when I’m delivered, but even while I am still waiting. You are faithful, and salvation belongs to You.  

This morning I pray that You will continue to watch over me and guide me in service to You. Help me learn from Jonah and realize Your Plans will take place even if I resist. Keep Satan from me and help me to walk in Your Spirit.

Continue Your Specific Prayers. I am praying for you... keep praying one for another, that we might be filled with God's Spirit.

In Psalm 8 , David prays a prayer of adoration.  "O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, You have established strength because of yor foes, to still the enemy and the avenger." Merry Christmas.  Good morning, friend: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us ). — Matthew 1:23 From the very beginning, God’s desire has been to dwell with His people. The promise of Emmanuel - God with us  — is the fulfillment of that longing. In Jesus Christ, God did not remain distant or unreachable. He stepped into our world, our struggles, and our suffering. Emmanuel reminds us that God is present in every season of life. When we feel alone, He is with us. When we walk through uncertainty, He walks beside us. Assurance is God’s gift of steady confidence in His promises. In a world filled with uncertainty, God offers His children the peace of knowing that our salvation, hope, and future rest securely in Him—not in our own strength or performance. “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” — 1 John 5:13 God’s assurance reminds us that we belong to Him. When doubts arise or fears whisper that we are not enough, His Word speaks truth: we are held by His grace. Our confidence is not rooted in how tightly we hold onto God, but in how firmly He holds onto us. Through assurance, God calms anxious hearts and strengthens our faith.
