Prayer Starter - Wednesday, November 19, 2025 Thanksgiving on the Wall
...You are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Therefore you did not desert them... Nehemiah 9:17 NIV
As we continue to focus our morning prayers on minor characters of the Old Testament, let's visit Nehemiah and the completion of the wall. (The link to Nehemiah above is for the whole book - it takes less than 30 minutes to read, but full of great reminders as we walk with Jesus).
When Jerusalem’s wall was finally rebuilt, the people didn’t celebrate with a political rally, a military parade, or a display of their own strength. Instead, they gathered singers, musicians, and Levites whose main purpose was to give thanks to God. Two great choirs even marched around the top of the wall, lifting songs of praise that echoed over the city. (Chapter 7)
Can you picture the scene - voices singing proudly where ruins once lay, joy overflowing in places that had been marked by fear and failure. The dedication of the wall wasn’t really about the stones or the structure. It was about God’s faithfulness, His mercy, and His ability to restore what was broken.
Nehemiah reminds us that when God rebuilds something in our lives—our hope, our peace, our relationships—the right response is worship. Thanksgiving keeps our hearts aligned with His goodness. It tells the world, “God did this, not us.”
Take a moment today to walk the “walls” of your own life. Where has God restored you? Where has He strengthened what once felt weak? Let those places become altars of praise.
Lord, thank You for rebuilding what I could not.
Help me live with a heart like the Levites. They listened to Nehemiah and returned to worship. They were eager to give You thanks.
May my life be a song of praise that points others to Your faithfulness.
When we face walls that are falling down and lie in ruin, we often fall in depression and walk away. Help us turn and return to face our broken walls and believe in Your Spirit to restore us as Your children. Thank You for being faithful - even when we are not. Thank You, Lord!
In Jesus' Name Amen.
