Prayer Starter - Thursday, January 29, 2026 Psalm 4

As you can tell, we are praying through the Psalms this week.  My plan is to share two to three Psalms each week and use the psalm to reflect on God's love and then pray to God using the Psalm for direction and motivation.

I just couldn't wait to share Psalm 4 with you. Here is is from The Message.

ESV is provided at this link.

When I call, give me answers. God, take my side!

Once, in a tight place, you gave me room;
Now I’m in trouble again: grace me! hear me!

You rabble—how long do I put up with your scorn?
How long will you lust after lies?
How long will you live crazed by illusion?

Look at this: look
Who got picked by God!
He listens the split second I call to him.

4-5 Complain if you must, but don’t lash out.
Keep your mouth shut, and let your heart do the talking.
Build your case before God and wait for his verdict.

6-7 Why is everyone hungry for more? “More, more,” they say.
“More, more.”
I have God’s more-than-enough,
More joy in one ordinary day

7-8 Than they get in all their shopping sprees.
At day’s end I’m ready for sound sleep,
For you, God, have put my life back together.

Dear God,

When I call out to You, hear my voice and make room for my heart to breathe again. Lift me from tight places into the freedom of Your grace. Quiet my anger, steady my thoughts, and teach me to wait for Your verdict instead of chasing empty promises.

Fill me with Your “more-than-enough” joy and grant me a peaceful day, knowing You are putting my life back together.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If that prayer doesn't fit your tone, try the next one. I know it is hard for some people to pray from the heart, like they are speaking to a friend. That is our goal... get to know Jesus personally and let God get to hear from our deepest thoughts.

(Also, written to close the day)

Holy Father,
When I call upon You, please hear my prayer and draw me into the calm of Your presence. You have carried me through many challenges, and I trust You to guide me tomorrow, if it be Your Will. Quiet my restless thoughts and soften my spirit as I wait for Your wise and loving answer.

Remind me that true joy is found in You alone, not in the things of this world. As this day comes to a close, grant me peaceful rest, confident that You are faithfully holding my life in Your hands.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Lord, Lead me to one soul today.
