Prayer Starter - Monday, February 9, 2026 Psalm 17 and 18

In Psalm 17, David cries out for justice and protection. He asks God to hear his prayer, examine his heart, and defend him from those who rise against him. It is the prayer of someone who feels surrounded and vulnerable. Yet David does not place his trust in his own strength; rather David places it in the watchful care of God. He believes the Lord  listens to those that call upon Him. He knows God will protect him.

Psalm 18 then becomes a powerful song of thanksgiving. Here David looks back and declares that God has been his rock, fortress, and deliverer. The same God he cried out to in distress answered him with strength and rescue. What began as a plea becomes a testimony of victory. David recognizes that God’s power, not his own, brought him through.

Together, these psalms remind us that prayer may have two stages:

first, we cry out in need… then we praise God for His deliverance.

When we feel pressed on every side, we can call on the Lord with confidence. He hears our prayers, strengthens our hearts, and in His time brings us through the battle.

If you are in a season of struggle, pray like Psalm 17Click on the link to read Psalm 17...it is a perfect prayer for any of us in need.

If you have seen God bring you through, praise like Psalm 18.

In every season, God remains our rock and our rescuer.

Holy Father, God-

Thank You for seeing me when I am in need.  Thank You for hearing my prayers of need.  You are an awesome God.

Bless my friends who are struggling.  May the trust You.

Help me to let others see You in me.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
