Prayer Starter - Wednesday, February 18, 2026 Psalm 35-36 Cry for justice, Confidence in Mercy

 


Our devotionals and prayers have centered on Lamenting to Trusting (Ps. 31-36). Beginning tomorrow we look at Psalms 37 - 41 and continue the Trust theme.  This morning, however, let's focus on chapters 35-36.

Psalms 35 and 36 hold two realities side by side: the pain of injustice and the assurance of God’s unfailing mercy. In Psalm 35, David cries out for God to defend him against those who seek harm. He does not hide his hurt or frustration but brings it honestly before the Lord. His prayer reminds us that it is right to seek God when we feel wronged, misunderstood, or burdened by unfair circumstances.

Yet Psalm 36 shifts our focus upward. While evil may seem loud and powerful, God’s love is greater. His steadfast love reaches to the heavens, His faithfulness to the skies. The psalmist contrasts the darkness of human sin with the brightness of God’s mercy and righteousness. Even when the world feels unstable, God remains a safe refuge.

Together, these psalms teach us that we can bring our cries for justice to God while resting in His compassion. We do not have to carry bitterness or seek revenge. Instead, we entrust our concerns to a righteous God who sees clearly and acts faithfully. His mercy sustains us, and His justice will prevail in His time.

When life feels unfair or heavy, turn your heart toward the Lord. Ask Him for help, but also remember His steadfast love. God is both just and merciful - our defender and our refuge.


Righteous God, You see what is happening in my life and in this world. I bring my concerns and hurts to You. Defend me, guide me, and keep my heart free from bitterness. Thank You for Your mercy that surrounds me and Your love that never fails. Help me trust You with every situation.

Assurance is God’s gift of steady confidence in His promises. Merry Christmas.  Good morning, friend: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us ). — Matthew 1:23 From the very beginning, God’s desire has been to dwell with His people. The promise of Emmanuel - God with us  — is the fulfillment of that longing. In Jesus Christ, God did not remain distant or unreachable. He stepped into our world, our struggles, and our suffering.
