Prayer Starter - Sunday, March 8, 2026 Psalm 72 Honoring the Righteous King


As we gather on the Lord’s Day, Psalm 72 reminds us why we worship. This psalm describes a king who rules with righteousness, protects the poor, and brings peace to the land. It is a prayer that the king’s reign would reflect God’s justice and compassion.

For Christians, Psalm 72 points beyond any earthly ruler to Jesus, the true King. His kingdom is built on mercy, truth, and righteousness. On Sunday, we pause from the busyness of the week to remember that our lives are not ruled by circumstances, headlines, or human power. Our lives are under the care of Christ, the King of kings.

When we gather for worship, we are doing what Psalm 72 anticipates—honoring the One whose reign brings hope to the whole world. We sing, pray, and listen to God’s Word because our King deserves our praise and our trust.

Sunday becomes a reminder that Christ’s kingdom is greater than our worries and stronger than the struggles of the week. As we worship Him today, we lift our eyes to the righteous King whose justice and peace will one day fill the earth.

Lord Jesus, our righteous King, we honor You on this Lord’s Day. Thank You for ruling with justice, mercy, and truth. As we worship today, renew our hearts and remind us that our hope is found in Your kingdom. Help us live this week in a way that reflects Your goodness and peace.  In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
