Monday, April 6, 2026 "A to Z Devotional"

Good morning, I hope you had a wondeful Easter. Unfortunately, my sweet wife hurt herself early Sunday morning and we were set back for the day. She is healing fine now, but during our visit to the ER Sunday afternoon (yes, I am slow to react and seek help). I spent a lot of time reading the 119th Psalm.

It is not my intent to make Prayer Starters a Bible Study - not really even a devotional, but it has developed into that, to some degree.

Did you know that today is the One Year Anniversary of Prayer Starters.  So it is fitting that we land on Psalm 119 - the longest psalm and literally the longest chapter in the entire Bible.

This is a fantastic poem and I hope you will read it all week - at least  8 - 24 verses per day, so that by Saturday you have read all 176 verses!  The psalm is written in 22 sections, with each section starting from a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Each of the 22 sections has 8 verses and each of those verses begins with a sentence starting with the same alphabet letter from the original language. I am sure the writer did this so the people could memorize the passages (a bit hard for us) and be able to recite the message over and over.  This explains the intentional design of the psalm.  It reflects the "A to Z Devotional to God." Key words in the poem are:

  • Law
  • Statutes
  • Commands
  • Precepts
  • Decrees
  • Word
  • Testimonies
  • This week we will pray each day based on the repeating message from Psalm 119.  The overall message is God’s Word is essential for life, guidance, and relationship with Him.  Since the beginning we have been praying to help us build and maintain a great relationship with our Lord and Savior. Our God wants us to have a great relationship with Him and the only way to do that is to have a conversation with Him.

    Let's pray.

    Heavenly Father,
Thank You that Your Word is more than instruction - it is Your invitation to know You. Teach me Your ways, not just so I can follow rules, but so I can walk closely with You. Help me to hear Your voice as I read, and give me understanding that shapes my heart and life. Draw me deeper into relationship with You, Lord, and let Your Word become alive in me each day.

    Continue your personal prayer.

    In His Name; Amen.

Blessed are those who keep his statutes
and seek him with all their heart—

Happy Monday. We will pray again tomorrow morning!
