Thursday, April 2, 2026 Psalms 113–114 – Passover worship
On the night of the Last Supper, Jesus gathered with His disciples to celebrate Passover - a meal rooted in remembrance and worship. It was tradition for the Israelites to sing Psalms 113–114 during the Passover. So it is very likely the disciples lifting praise to the God who delivers using these words at the Last Supper.
Psalm 113 reminds us that God lifts the lowly: “He raises the poor from the dust… He seats them with princes.” Psalm 114 recalls God’s power in the Exodus - how the sea parted and the people were set free.
As Jesus sang these words, He knew a greater deliverance was about to unfold. The same God who rescued Israel from Egypt was now providing salvation through the cross. The meal was not just remembrance - it was preparation. The Lamb of God was about to give His life.
Even in that moment, Jesus chose worship.
And so we remember: before the cross, there was praise. Before the suffering, there was trust. Before the resurrection, there was a song.
Lord, thank You for delivering Your people and for sending Jesus as our Savior. Help me to worship You even in uncertain moments and to trust Your plan, knowing You are always working for redemption.
Continue your personal prayer.
In His Name, Amen.
