Friday, May 1, 2026 Proverbs 5 "Pray to Avoid Temptation"


Now then, my sons, listen to me;
    do not turn aside from what I say.
8 Keep to a path far from her,
    do not go near the door of her house,
9 lest you lose your honor to others
    and your dignity to one who is cruel,
10 lest strangers feast on your wealth
    and your toil enrich the house of another.  Proverbs 5:7-10

I love the Proverbs! I  have never prayed with the Proverbs, but this has been a blessing for me. I hope it is for you. Proverbs 5 is a strong and honest warning about temptation - especially the kind that pulls us away from faithfulness. It reminds us that not everything that looks good leads to something good. What seems sweet in the moment can bring lasting pain if it pulls us away from God’s design.

The main message is to stay faithful, to honor the commitments we’ve made, and to find joy in what God has already given us rather than chasing what we don’t have.

God doesn’t give these warnings to limit us, but to protect us. A life of wisdom is a life of focus,  choosing what is right over what is easy, and what is lasting over what is temporary. 

Join me in prayer: 

Lord,
Give me wisdom to recognize what is right and the strength to walk in it. Help me to turn away from temptation and anything that would lead me away from You. Guard my heart and my mind, and teach me to be faithful in my thoughts, words, and actions.

Help me to value the relationships and blessings You have given me. Let me find joy in what is good, pure, and lasting. Keep my life aligned with Your truth, and lead me in a path that honors You each day.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Merry Christmas.  Good morning, friend: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us ). — Matthew 1:23 From the very beginning, God’s desire has been to dwell with His people. The promise of Emmanuel - God with us  — is the fulfillment of that longing. In Jesus Christ, God did not remain distant or unreachable. He stepped into our world, our struggles, and our suffering.
