Monday, May 4, 2026 Proverbs 8 Praying for Wisdom
Good Monday morning, friends.
We are going to pray through Proverbs over the next few weeks. Chapter 8 gives us a beautiful picture of Godly wisdom. God’s wisdom is available to everyone willing to seek it. It stands at the crossroads of life, guiding us toward what is right, true, and lasting. Yesterday's chapter was the negative side of not listening to wisdom. Today, the chapter explains that wisdom is more valuable than anything we can gain in this world. It shapes our decisions, protects our path, and aligns our lives with God’s design. When we choose wisdom, we’re choosing life.
For I know Your wisdom is true and right. May I learn discretion from Your wisdom. May I listen to Your word.
The question isn’t whether wisdom is speaking — the question is whether we are listening. Each day gives us opportunities to hear God’s voice and follow His direction. That's the purpose of our morning prayer starter, too. Talk to God. Listen to Him. One way we hear the message of God is by reading His scriptures.
When we respond to His wisdom, we don’t just make better choices—we build a life that reflects His purpose and peace.
Read Proverbs 8 The speaker is Wisdom, herself. Here is a short clip from the chapter:
“To you, O people, I call out;
I raise my voice to all mankind.
5 You who are simple, gain prudence;
you who are foolish, set your hearts on it.
6 Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say;
I open my lips to speak what is right.
7 My mouth speaks what is true,
for my lips detest wickedness.
8 All the words of my mouth are just;
none of them is crooked or perverse. (Verses 4-8)
O Mighty God, thank You for Your Spirit that teaches me to listen to Your wisdom. She calls us from the gate, like the Great Shepherd calls His sheep. May I listen to her, for she is trustworthy.
For I know Your wisdom is true and right. May I learn discretion from Your wisdom. May I listen to Your word.
Continue your personal prayer.
Here is mine. Customize for your friends and family.
Holy Father, I lift up my friends in need to You. May You give knowledge to those caring for the ill. For Lois, Glenn, Bill, Elizabeth, Pam, Randall, Madilyn, and my friend, Sherman's mother, who is also in hospice. Lord, others have slipped my mind, but as others pray for them, know I pray for them, too. I ask Your Spirit to help me pray when I know not what to pray for.
My Lord, may I listen to Your Spirit and do Your will. Forgive me for my sins. Today I pray because Your Son Jesus died for me. Thank You. Amen.
