Sunday, May 31, 2026 Praying like Jesus #1 Prayer to See Clearly

Good Morning. We are beginning a 15 day prayer series, "Prayer of Jesus."
Prayers of Jesus, No. 1:  We are learning to pray like Jesus.

The Gift of Seeing Clearly

"I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do."  Matthew 11:25–26

Notice what Jesus chose to praise God for.

Not a miracle. Not a victory. Not power or influence or the applause of the crowd. In this quiet, tender moment, Jesus lifted His heart to the Father in gratitude for revelation — for the breathtaking grace that truth can be known at all.

And then He smiled at the upside-down way God works.

The wise and learned (those who had spent lifetimes building towers of knowledge) somehow missed it. But the humble, the childlike, the ones who came with open hands instead of full ones? Their eyes were wide open. They saw what scholars could not.

This is not an insult to intelligence. God made the human mind, and He delights in it. But there is a kind of knowing that the mind alone cannot reach  a spiritual sight that only opens when we stop trying to earn our way to understanding and simply receive it. Truth, at its deepest level, is not a conquest. It is a gift.

The greatest barrier to that gift is often the quiet pride of thinking we already have it figured out.

So what posture does God respond to? A child's. Not ignorance — but openness. Not emptiness — but trust. The child doesn't demand explanations before leaning in. The child doesn't need to appear impressive. The child simply comes, eyes wide, heart soft, completely dependent on the One who holds all things.

That is the posture that sees clearly.

Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank You that truth is not hidden behind credentials or achievement. Forgive me for the times I've approached You with pride rather than humility. Teach me the freedom of the childlike heart — the one that trusts before it understands, and receives what no amount of striving could earn. Open my eyes to what You are longing to show me.

Continue your personal prayer.

 In Jesus' name, Amen.
