Friday, July 3, 2026 A Prayer for My Friend


Early this week, I wrote about praying scripture. My friend, Randall, prayed with Psalm 20 and 21.  After he shared with me, I went and read Psalm 20.  Yes, sir, that is a good one. I know I needed it, too. Here is my prayer response.

May the Lord answer you when you are in distress;
    may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
2 May he send you help from the sanctuary
    and grant you support from Zion.
3 May he remember all your sacrifices
    and accept your burnt offerings.
4 May he give you the desire of your heart
    and make all your plans succeed.
5 May we shout for joy over your victory
    and lift up our banners in the name of our God.

May the Lord grant all your requests.

6 Now this I know:
    The Lord gives victory to his anointed.
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
    with the victorious power of his right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
    but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
8 They are brought to their knees and fall,
    but we rise up and stand firm.
9 Lord, give victory to the king!
    Answer us when we call!


Lord of the day of trouble,

You are the One who hears before we finish asking, who sends help from places we cannot see and steadies us from ground we did not know was holy. Psalm 20 reminds us that some trust in chariots, some in their own strength, their own plans, their own careful preparations — but our confidence rests in You.

So here is my prayer:

When trouble comes, let me remember it is Your name I call on, not my own resources.
When I am tempted to measure my safety by what I can control, remind me that those who trust in lesser things stumble and fall, while those who trust in You rise and stand firm.
Answer me, not because I have earned it, but because You are faithful to those who call on You in honesty.
Grant the desires of my heart only insofar as they align with Your purposes, and give me peace to release the ones that don't.
Let my requests this day be lifted not in anxiety but in confidence, knowing You save Your anointed and answer from Your holy heaven.

May others see, in my life, evidence that prayers offered in Your name do not return empty.  Amen.

Lord, Lead me to one soul today.

Merry Christmas.  Good morning, friend: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us ). — Matthew 1:23 From the very beginning, God’s desire has been to dwell with His people. The promise of Emmanuel - God with us  — is the fulfillment of that longing. In Jesus Christ, God did not remain distant or unreachable. He stepped into our world, our struggles, and our suffering.
